A Plea to Most Venerable Prelates

Swarnajith Udana

Most Venerable Prelates (Athi Garu Maha Nayakawaruni)

It is an extremely rare opportunity that happens once in an eon that one gets to witness an act of such infinite and unconditional compassion. I am simply speechless to talk about piety and reverence I felt by reading your recent letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksha. The letter is an epitomic gem of universal Maithri. Upholding of this centre pillar concept of Maithri by you, most venerable prelates, deserves extolment made in eloquence of Ama Wathura.

Buddha preached and practiced infinite compassion and Maithri in a non-selective manner. He did not stop there. He also transformed people like Angulimala and Alawaka to be dharmika (nonviolent and well principled). And only then he accepted them. Buddha’s limitless compassion did not mean that Angulimala was allowed to do whatever he was doing. It meant stopping him doing the crimes he committed. Then he knew that there were people who were nearly impossible to be rehabilitated; for instance consider Devadatha. Then again Buddha’s infinite kindness did not permit Buddha to rule that cause and effect was invalid in Devadathha’s case since he had royal blood in him.

Most venerable Prelates, your infinite wisdom appears to me as asymmetrical and is applied only in a selective manner. This is the only issue that I have with your infinite compassion. Buddha might have different notion of egalitarian application of Universal Maithri. For instance, cause and effect in Buddhism has no selective basis and it applies to everybody and everything.

Nevertheless you may have your own way of non-selective egalitarian application of this principle of universal compassion. In that case, you simply do not need to worry about contravening Buddha Dharma as there is already a precedent from the Buddhist Temple. As you know really well, a part of Buddhist Temple has ruled that Buddha’s idea of caste is being irrelevant to a person’s conduct, is irrelevant, invalid and outdated. It is the humble opinion of this mortal that there is enormous room for you to improve non-selectiveness of application of your Nahi Verena-Verani-Maithri principle.

To do so, I do not ever dream of asking for you to renounce your veneration of Mr. Fonseka and his sins since it might not fit with the agenda whatever there is. However, it is imperative to be seen as you apply your infinite compassion to everybody in egalitarian manner. Otherwise, you will earn a great deal of ridicule and at the end your infinite compassion could go wasted without achieving your goal for Mr. Fonseka.

This is my proposal. Why do not you write to President asking to release all the rapists, murderers, drug dealers and all other forms of criminals from jails? To strengthen this universal and unconditional compassion you should also demand immediate disbanding of police and courts.

People might object here. They might argue that Mr. Fonseka has not yet tried legally and these criminals have been convicted by courts of law. Isn’t this the crux of the injustice? I implore you not to fall prey to such Fonsakist logic. These criminals are in jails since they were investigated and tried. This means that a great injustice of colossal magnitude has already happened to them since they were investigated. For this reason it is evident that your universal and unconditional Maithri has not been applied to them. Most Venerable Prelates, you need to adamantly demand the Government to release all criminals. This is the only way to compensate for this huge blunder that infinite, unconditional kindness which you apply for the angel Mr. Fonseka has not been applied to these criminals. If this infinite Maithri has been applied to them these criminals would not have been jailed. This is an injustice of untold cruelty. We are very pleased with you, Prelates, since you have come forward to rectify this injustice. Now, in Sri Lanka this new form of justice must apply to everybody, not just to Mr. Fonseka; don’t you think so?

May I ask you one thing more, please? You need to extend your compassion to the President too. The President is condemned by Ranil, Mangala, the West and the Angel Mr. Fonseka because he did not show infinite kindness and compassion to the LTTE and Separatism. Can you apply your infinite compassion to Mr. President too, just to look impartial?

Most venerable Prelates, I am expecting you to make an announcement demanding the Government to disband police and courts and release of all criminals from jail. Furthermore, I trust that a statement of forgiveness for Mahinda Rajapaksha would also be forthcoming for his crime of defeating the LTTE.

By the way, I have some differences with the President. Even though you apply infinite maithri to Mr. Fonseka I will not apply infinite kindness to Mr. President since my equality and non-selectiveness are different from yours. This is not merely because magnanimity does not reside in my heart but precisely because we mortals expect hour President to be a just and competent leader. One may ask what I expect from the current opposition politicians. My only humble answer to the question is that writing about them to the most venerable Prelates in this letter is beneath my dignity even though it appears like that safeguarding the interests of these politicians as the crown of dignity of the addressees of this note.

So I will ask the President to apply the law equally and non-selectively to all. I demand Mr. President that the protests of the Opposition not attacked by using party supporters. Even if he does not encourage such abuses since they happen under his nose he should bear responsibility. The law order must apply to everybody in a justifiable manner, regardless status or power.

Thank you very much for your time.

Please aknowledge the will of the majority and respect the rights of the minorities

People of Sri Lanka have voted for gratitude, President Mahinda Rajapakse himself acknowledged this fact. Now it is time for the president to reciprocate and be gracious to the people who brought him back to power.

Now we have to move on, respecting the will of the majority and respecting the democratic framework; General Sarath Fonseka also needs to do this. If the disparity of votes between Rajapaksa and Fonseka was not that great, many would have backed up Fonseka's claim that election malpractices was great enough to change the outcome of the election. But a disparity of 2 million votes (out of a population of about 20 million people - mind you the voting population is smaller than this) is just too great to be attributed just for election malpractices. So lets not destabilize Sri Lanka by getting embroiled in lawsuits that will not end in anything positive.

Nevertheless, undoubtedly, election malpractices have occurred. The post-election speach of the Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said it all. If any minister in the ruling party is not acknowledging malpractices, it seems that they are still not sincere to the aspirations of the people, and are still trying to hoodwink the people. To increase the credibility of the government, thus strengthening it further, President Rajapaksa needs to acknowledge this, at least privately, to his own minsters, and make sure that this does not happen in the following elections. He should control his ministers.

The Sinhala votes lost to the putative "TNA-Fonseka pact" will remain unquantifiable, and this may have been the biggest impediment for the General's victory. Without really knowing the contents of this "pact", people panicked. Both candidates fueled their respective campaigns on the inertia generated by ending of the war. If LTTE is well and truly finished, why did we fear these pacts? It is dangerous to say that most of the Tamil people who voted for TNA or Fonseka to be terrorists (I saw one dunce of a minster insinuating this). We should not create terrorists out of ordinary people. If the Tamil people are still voting for the TNA, TNA must be doing something right, we need to identify this, and make sure that they are comfortable enough to vote for any politician they like, not on ethnic lines. In this regard, we need to applaud something that President Rajapaksa said, soon after the victory. He said that he is glad that he was happy to see the Northern people voting (who were for so many years suppressed by the LTTE), even if they didn't vote for him (Mahinda). This is a step in the right direction, and the other minsters need to follow this.

Sarath Fonseka also did not play his cards well, regarding the allegations of the pact. I felt that he could not express his true feelings due to the fear of loosing the Nothern votes. His bondage and dependency to the UNP, TNA and JVP, was too great for him to do anything about this at this point. This is a risk of running as a common candidate, the political straight jacket was too tight for him to maneuver. I felt so sorry to see the our outspoken and smart general this way.

One of the greatest points for concern is the way in which the media was used to carry out a mud-campaign against the general. The government should set an example for other media units to follow, but it was Sirasa (TV and Radio) who lead the way. Sirasa set an example by providing a far balanced view of the election campaign. More seriously, government has set a precedence by showing that it is ok to use any means to meet even a trivial end. This is not a message that Sri Lankans should aim to follow in their everyday life; foe example we do not need more three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) drivers to be cutting the lanes, overtaking on the left and creating havoc with the law abiding citizens.

Now the point is we have democracy, now we need liberalism. We need to acknowledge the will of the majority while respecting the rights of the minorities. Everyone should help our returning president to achieve this, and hope that he keeps the promises that he made.

One of my great many wishes, which may or may not come true is for Rajapaksha and Fonseka to reconcile, to ride one last time, to bring glory to Sri Lanka, yet again.

Victory and defeat - lets rebuild Sri Lanka

Author - Rover

"Victory breeds hatred
The defeated live in pain
Happily the peaceful live
Giving up victory and defeat"
- Dammapada

Buddha of course got it right, and this has exactly been my experience.

When I got the good news that the top LTTE terrorists in Sri Lankan had been defeated, the relief that ran through me was inexorable. I wanted to be in Sri Lanka, celebrating with my people, the resounding victory we had. But soon the realization hit me about the people who have made the real sacrifices for this war could never be as jubilant as the people who were mindlessly dancing on the streets, drunk. These more subdued people would be the widows, children and parents of fallen army folks, IDPs who lost pretty much everything and the SLDF folks that got badly injured.

Of course, then hooligans took the celebrations too far, as they did when we won the 1996 Cricket World Cup; the guys who danced on the streets drunk then never understood what cricket was about. One of my relatives was stopped by a group of hooligans and was asked why she was not flying the Sri Lankan flag on her vehicle. While they were gathering around her car, another guy ran and got a flag and put it up on the car, without her consent. She is patriotic (read - want Sri Lanka to do well in all aspects) to the core, but she is not the type that would show her emotions in public, there are people with a diversity of temperaments you know, and after this experience she was quite subdued, and contributed to further dampen my spirits as well. Anyway no harm done to our national interests, at least not yet.

But concerning the LTTE supporting hooligans, our victory, when outlandishly expressed, breeds even more hatred. Do we need to see the genesis of more and more hatred at this juncture? Isn't it the time for reconciliation and putting our nation back on track?

Out officials make blunders too. It was a pretty pathetic to see pictures of Prabhakaran in a thong. A singularly unattractive human being to begin with, it was quite a jarring sight to see him thonged! Whose bright idea was it to put it up on the MOD site? Do you think it would serve a progressive purpose? I don't; please explain to me if any of you think it does.

Furthermore, the defeated also live in pain and it is obvious from the numerous statements that they make. The Wold Tamil Forum in Canada for example, a proxy of the LTTE, has said that they "will bring Sri Lanka to its knees". These would be the folks that aided and abetted the destruction of Sri Lanka and drew schadenfreude from witnessing our distress. Even so lets not breed hatred by overly expressing ourselves, thus causing deeper pain in others, in our victory. Lets show some humility, its always for the best. Lets try to show these anti-Sri Lankan elements, by example that we are not like them.

Ah, and the peaceful, the moderate Sri Lankans (both Tamil and Sinhalese) are just happy of the realization that there is a great chance to rebuild Sri Lanka if our president plays his cards effectively. With the executive presidential powers he has, he can make a huge difference, and lets hope he does. However, lets not put all our problems for the president to address. There is much we can do as individuals; for starters, lets remember the people who sacrificed most towards the victory, and contribute however we can to make their lives brighter. This humanistic gesture would certainly help us to become better citizens and contribute more profoundly to the development of our nation.

"Human Shield Terror" and the Naiveness of the International Community

Author: Rover

I've been watching with great dread the drama created by the UN, Norway, UK and USA, to end Sri Lanka government's drive against the LTTE terror. I initially thought they would correct the "slip ups" they made, but it seems that they will never amend.

I sincerely thought that the liberal democratic world formed a wide coalition to bring down world terrorism, which is the single greatest threat to democracies throughout the world. But the statements by persona such as Hilary Clinton, Milliband (a minister from labor party in UK), and others are directly weakening this coalition, that is if ever there was actually one. For example Hillary Clinton said that "the entire world is very disappointed" (with Sri Lanka) "causing such untold suffering".

I was even against Sri Lanka borrowing money from such repressive regimes as Iran, arguing that when we pay back their money with interest, that would perpetuate the strengthening of states that support terrorism. But now, to my mind, some of the powerful nations in the IC are it seems are guilty of turning out to be "states that support terrorism". That is of course if they still define terrorists as "groups that use terror against civilians to get at a political objective".

As I have indicated in a previous article, LTTE is by all definitions is a terrorist group that is inimical to the democratic process. LTTE has introduced, devised, and improvised many terror tactics (such as human suicide bombings, suicide jackets, suicide naval craft, export of terrorists to more affluent nations to fund its terror campaign, suicide planes ect.), and holding massive civilian human shields is the latest addition to this ever growing list. LTTE has been holding human shields for its own protections throughout its campaign, but the shear size of the latest shield surpasses all previous ones, and has become perhaps the largest one in human history. This has caused untold suffering to the civilians under issue. The people that didn't agree to the draconian plan of the terrorists have been shot, maimed and killed. The terror that is caused to the very own people that it tries to protect has now become the tool to get at a political objective. The current political objective being the protection of the LTTE's top leadership, to FIGHT ANOTHER DAY.

The Sri Lankan army has rescued more than 2/3rd of these civilians (which was estimated to be a total of 150,000 people), and are about to rescue the rest while aiming to destroy the terrorist leadership. This is the cause for the unsubstantiated warnings by the IC on the government of Sri lanka!

If Obama administration is aiming to mollify terrorist groups through such irresponsible utterances exhibited by Hillary Clinton, I think that they are going back on whatever progress that was made in the war against terror. These utterances will encourage not only the LTTE to hold on to the human shield for its own protection, but also encourage other terrorist groups to realize the value of "human shield terror". It is quite pathetic to see most of these great nations terrified and whining by the terror unleashed by the terrorist LTTE.

Hence, unfortunately, one thing is becoming clear. For the IC, their special interests seems to be overriding the global war against all types of terror. Are we now seeing a deterioration of the the resolve that the world as a whole had after witnessing the horrendous 9-11 attacks? If the answer to this is yes, then, it is indeed sad times for the whole world.

The Masterpiece of the Masters: Tail Metamorphoses into the Dog, Dog to the Tail

By Swarnajith Udana

swarnajithudana@gmail.com

No one in right mind cannot and will not ask or hope for a license to kill but unfortunately there are some who do in the name of Elam or Patriotism. Also no one in balanced mind cannot and will not ask or hope for a Sovereign Nation to agree with the world to allow a group of maniacs who violently pursue a mono-ethnic pure super racist state to take the Nation itself as hostage for the asking price of ransom, sovereignty of the Nation itself. Shockingly though that is what is happening. The US seems to have an unbridled need to save the True Sun God. For this reason, they try to obstruct the capture of True Sun God by the Government forces by insisting his surrender to a third party.

I do not have a problem with other Nations for being sincerely concerned and worried with the safety of Tamil civilians. In fact, we need to appreciate such humanitarian gestures and use it to the advantage of our Nation and the benefit of the innocent Tamil civilians themselves. I was one of a rare breed once who believed impartiality of BBC and other international agencies. Being familiar with Amnesty International (AI) manifesto, once I revered that organization with a great deal of piousness. I suspect that the organizations of various international community have been infiltrated by unscrupulous LTTE agents. A member of this very organization once revealed me the true nature of the LTTE.

Until about seventeen years ago, I was foolish enough to believe in sainthood of the LTTE. A Tamil gentleman from Fiji, who was a member of AI, convinced me the ruthlessness of the LTTE. Also, he referred me to the work of UTHR(J). That was an eye opener. Until that day, I naively believed that the bombs went off in Colombo were the work of then Government, to frame and defame the LTTE. If the Government of that time had an iota of credibility, I would not have fallen for the falsifications, distortions Gobbelism (in the magnitude that even dwarfs Joseph Gobbels). This is the very reason that any corrupt activity of a politician is actually a treacherous act against the whole Nation.

USA killed a large number of innocent civilians in Vietnam (which was a wrong war by their own admission), Afghanistan and Iraq. Suffering of unheard, untold unattended magnitude was unleashed against these people. I am not here to claim that if the USA can do such things we should be allowed too. Really, my position is that just because some one can commit such crimes we should not follow the example.

Given all of these, I feel just absolute shock and bewilderment why the world Masters are requesting Sri Lanka to become a lamb of sacrifice in the altar of the unique True Sun God. I can understand one being a pacifist. No person in rational mind can sanction war. Yet, the fact of the matter is that no person in sensible mind can absolutely condemn war either. If we do condemn all forms of violence in all forms of circumstances then we need to dissolve courts and legal systems and governments since all of these are run by the force of sanctioned violence such as law enforcement authority given to the police (or sometimes to the military).

The cruellest aspect of the war is not property destruction, cruelty against women and children and deaths of non-combatant innocents but its essentiality at times (please note that not always-only sometimes). I hate war the most for this essentiality. The bottom line is that unfortunately we cannot absolutely condemn violence. If we do then all police and military forces need to be dissolved but this will only create fertile ground for violence of unimaginable horrendousness and ferocity. I am aware that the LTTE could also utilise this argument of selective essentiality of war. The people who really practice selective essentiality of war cannot use suicide killing in city streets, attack sleeping villagers or kill people in worship or conscript children as combatants. So it will be incredibly ludicrous and inhumane if this argument is presented by the LTTE.

I hate war and violence more for the very reason of this essentiality but do not condemn absolutely, either. Being a soldier can be the noblest of noblest profession if one puts his or her life in line willingly to save civilian lives and their livelihoods. This is what is happening in Sri Lanka. However, I cannot say that there are no mistakes. It is impossible to conduct a war without having to take a risk on innocent lives. Police duty in streets also sometimes involves such risks. The maxim is to take extreme precaution to minimise harm to the civilians. I sincerely believe that this is what is happening in Sri Lanka. For the first time in my life I am feeling respect, gratitude and piousness towards our soldiers since they are really putting their lives at risk to help civilians. When our soldiers give helping hand to civilians crossing the lagoon our soldiers risk their lives. There are many other examples one can cite to support this. I would like to urge the Government to adhere to this principle as extremely as possible without putting the sovereignty of the Nation in jeopardy. If the forces happen to make a mistake they should be open about it.

Beyond any doubt the LTTE has convinced me that it does not deserve any form of lenience long time ago. There is ample evidence for the international community to notice if they really want to know the truth. It is not really that they do no know. Mostly they pretend that there is only patchy evidence to the viciousness and inhumane nature of the LTTE. Destruction of the LTTE is a blessing not only for Sri Lanka but also for the whole world. Without any shame they could sneak into the No-Fire-Zone with heavy weapons and use them with in the zone against the very civilians who were kept as defence armour suit for True Sun God. Without any concern they can enlist young children to war.

The fact that some hundreds of wounded civilians were air lifted by the military is iron clad proof, beyond any doubt, that the Government forces do not seek to harm civilians. Why should they try to save the witnesses against them if they are the perpetrators of the crime? The fact that war has dragged so long is absolute proof of this humane attitude. The smiles and gratitude of the civilians is concrete proof for this gentile nature.

Our Masters totally ignore these facts. They pretend that their countries are run on absolute condemnation of violence but what they have forgotten is to dissolve their courts, law enforcement authorities and militaries. Existence of law courts and supreme courts themselves are sanctioned forms of violence as I argued before. Only one percent of people will pay a traffic light fine unless the law is not enforced by police through threatened violence. Think of running prisons. Will a murderer go into the prison just because law requires and if there are no people to support the law with guns? Of course laws are broken with guns as well as they are maintained by use of guns.

By observing the demands of the international community for an immediate ceasefire, it can be clearly seen that the most of the International community is serving the LTTE’s vicious agenda regardless their feeble noise against the LTTE.

The tail for a dog is created by God for the duty of wagging. The dog wags the tail. Under no circumstances can the tail wag the dog. Masters created its paw-tail to get things done according to the interests of the Masters, but the tail-paw itself began to grow muscles, not necessarily military muscles but muscles that can flex even the large armies. At the end, the tail-paw has become the dog and the original masters have become the tail and the paw. This happens right at the moment that the first victim of the tail-paw has become the tail-paw terminator. What an irony? The international community by and large has become the tail of True Sun God.

Even thought the Government is winning the war in the military arena, it is loosing the war big time in the arena of propaganda. There are several reasons for this.

  • LTTE’s ability to bend, blend and mend the truth against all human norms (Then some of our politicians are not far away from this. Some of our politicians beat or kill another then admit themselves into hospitals and claim innocence and blame the victim for attacking the victimizer. Also the claim is that the victim harmed himself just to make trouble for the politicians. (May God bless them if HE really can.) Again this is why corrupt, violent behavior and duplicity of a politician is crime against the whole Nation. The Nation is viewed through these corrupt politicians.

  • Inactivity and ineffectiveness of our foreign service (Foreign service is a mean of giving extended holidays, paid by public purse, to political and personal cronies who facilitate dirty dealings (Forgive me, the foreign service people who work hard for country.)

  • Willing gullibility of some of our Masters to believe any thing said by any body against a country like ours so that they can keep the lid on us.

  • Strategic willingness of some of our Masters to pretend that LTTE is not so bad and the Sri Lanka is the most horrendous offender.

  • Naivety of some of our Masters so they genuinely fall to Gobbelism of LTTE.(This again epitomizes the ineffectiveness of our foreign service and lack of principles of our Government and Opposition politicians. Some of our politicians’ seem to be in the payroll of the LTTE and performing tale-telling-duty to international Masters.)

Is there a division in the Foreign Service Department that deals with propaganda matters that monitor Internet, global newspapers and foreign government statements? Are there immediate and effective statements against the assertions and demands of the international community? It is widely believed that it is the Sri Lakan forces that who killed hundreds or even thousands in NFZ. Is there effective campaign against such false and vicious propaganda? Or has the department chosen to be silent believing that no one would give any credibility to such lies since the lies are uttered by utterly disgusted pathetic liars, LTTE? If so, you are dreaming.

For example suppose that a neighbor country advises us to take extreme precaution to avoid civilian casualties and treat refugees well. Our Foreign Ministry should be able to handle this with assertiveness without sacrificing our National pride or giving a wrong impetus to the neighbor country to become an outright enemy of ours. If we say: We are glad to hear that our friendly neighbor country shares our values in dealing with a difficult war. It is heartening that we share a same platform on this issue. We appreciate any positive criticism that helps us to conduct this war without harming our genuine National interests while being extremely mindful about our people, may it be Tamil or Sinhalese.

I would like to ask the authorities how many interviews have you recorded with Tamil civilians? I was able to see only a few. Why not video record their statements and share with international bodies? May be you have done so. If so, put them on the internet in hundreds.

I am glad to see that now there is a systematic aid collection from the general public. Please remember that this should be done not just because the Government cannot provide our Tamil brothers and sisters but also because we need to bond our people to the National unity by spiritual means. Are there daily religious observances to facilitate this bonding?

Surprisingly UNP has said something reasonable (among millions of statements of comics and acts of national treachery). It has asked to provide psychological counseling to our brothers and sisters. Psychological counseling is effective when it is done in native language. Sri Lanka suffers from an acute shortage of psychologists even for usual health care needs. Even though this is a welcome thoughtful positive suggestion it is not practical. It can be achieved by giving access to religious worship in the camps and utilizing elderly educated Tamil people (They can be given a basic understanding -based on religion, culture and science-of psychological counseling on war victims prior to enlisting their services.) Also it will be nice to plan such services for our war heroes.)

Are the officers handling refugees aware of basic human nature? In the first few weeks, our Tamil brothers and sisters will be ecstatic for being alive and safe. Then they will begin to complain. (This is the basic human nature.) Have you thought of handling this difficult situation in the most possible humane and gentile and genuine manner? Do you understand that their statements need to be recorded before they forget their hardship in LTTE regime? Is there awareness that extreme work load can lead refugee camp managers to be rough? Have they been counseled against such harshness?

UNP has made a demand that our refugees should be resettled within three months. To do that we may have to stop the war first and hurry up cleaning the mines and engage in all other preparations. Even though this suggestion did come as a mean of undermining the Government it should be the aim of the Government to resettle the people in the least possible time. This is the first of step of rebuilding the Nation.

President Mahinda Rajapaksha has done the Nation proud against all odds. Even the most of the Opposition was saying waskavi to curse the Government’s military effort. The behavior of the opposition only points out to their lack of respect for intelligence of the people and inability to feel the aspirations of the people. Through this insensitivity arises the willingness to sacrifice genuine National security for power and the blessing of the Masters. You, Mr. President, handled this delicate and extremely difficult task with an amazing mixture of flexibility and firmness. You stood up to the pressure of the Masters. At times you even threw protocols away. This almost reminds me Buddha’s taming of raksha Alawaka. We the people salute you from our hearts!

In my opinion, the worst political betrayal of Sri Lankan people was skillfully executed by Mrs Chandrika Bandaranayka. For the first time of our history, people voted her for the sake of the country itself not for the sake of their stomachs. The lady thought the enormous mandate given to her was a mandate given to look after the stomach of her and her cronies. Mr. President you were democratically elected but you did not get such a large mandate. Of course you just passed the line. Nevertheless now you have created a mandate from the voters that surpasses the mandate given to the lady. This means that now you are in the position to become the worst betrayer of the public trust or the mythical prince Diyasena.

I hope that you realise the gravity of the responsibility lying on your shoulders. I hope that this will energize you to stand on principles and transform yourself into King Dharmasoka-Elara-Diyasena. One contemporary example to follow is the Indian police officer who fined himself for crossing a red light signal and sued the wife for misuse of public property. Tamil, Sinhalese and Muslim people have come a long way to forge a genuine national bond, almost. Please do take all the steps to condemn Sinhalese hegemony, supremacy and Tamil racist supremacy. Sri Lanka for all and all for Sri Lanka.

Once again the Opposition has a noble duty towards the Nation. One UNP MP has said the Government is using prisoners for election violence by the day time and then returns them to their prison cells by the night time. If this is a false accusation it is treason against the people just by the UNP. If it is true then it is treason by both the Government and the Opposition. This is because almost nobody believes (except for Masters) what UNP says. By turning themselves into ludicrous bunch of selfish power seekers, they have made themselves an utterly ineffective Opposition that cannot carry out their noble duty of serving people.

A Government Minister has made another statement. This is an eye opener that gives glimpses into the inner working of the minds of our politicians. Listen to this first. I say: if my father is at the temple then he is not at home. This statement is equivalent to the statement if my father is at home then he is not at the temple. We have a saying even if the mouth lies the tongue does not. The Minister has proclaimed that the Government does not need to engage in election violence since its victory is assured. This is equivalent to the statement that if the victory of the Government is not assured then the Government would engage in election violence. Certainly the tongue does not lie even when the mouth does. Any improper attack on the Government by the Opposition is an attack on the people and any improper attack on the Opposition by the Government is an attack on the people.

Mr. President how can you stand tall against your foreign counterparts when your party shelters rapists, drug dealers and underworld thugs. Many people say that reason for all of these is the Bahu Bootha constitution of JR. I do not like some of the constitution of JR. I even support abolition of Presidency, but Sri Lanka is now at the threshold of freedom from terrorism thanks to the office of executive presidency. I agree that there must be a change of election processes and even change from executive presidency to executive Prime Minister, but what we need to recognize is that the constitution or the election processes do not corrupt or abuse the people. It is the corrupt politicians who abuse the election processes and the office of executive presidency. Please, Mr. President, do not look for any more excuses for sheltering corruption and thuggary. Stand up and clean up this mess please. Then I will address you not by Mr. President but by Dear Mahinda.

Mr. President, the whole Nation will honour you if you stand on principles and govern the country for the people not for cronies. Otherwise you will earn the curse of the people as our lady did. The choice is yours and the fate is ours.

Imbalance of Balanced Criticisms of Masters -The Modern Court of King Kakille

By Swarnajith Udana
swarnajithUdana@gmail.com

This article was carried by the Asian Tribune on

Every thing needs to be in balance. Take for example food intake. Our criticisms need to be in balance. Our judgements need to be in balance. I assure my readers that I have nothing against balance. I am all for balance. Suppose that on the tenet that every thing needs to be in balance, in an attempted murder case the judge gives equal jail terms to both the victim and the victimiser. Isn’t this a summum bonum example of ultimate balance? If it isn’t then it should be, if one goes by international standards of being balance.

Consider following balance views that I am really proud of. Please apply modern international standards to judge my judgements. For these views I am sure that I will win Nobel price for being balanced but only if the international community relinquishes it.

A. A politician of the ruling party of Sri Lanka has abducted a young child to threaten his parents. I admonish both the LTTE and the Sri Lankan Government to refrain from abductions and other forms of violence in this provincial election.

B. It has come to my attention that huge waste of resources occurs in Government Departments in the capital city of Colombo. I would like to remind both the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE that misappropriation of public money is against good governance.

C. People are fed up with rubbish filing up in streets due to the ineffectiveness of Colombo City Council. I would like to put it to both the LTTE and the City Council that removal of waste from the city streets is an essential service and both parties need to make sure that essential service are carried out without any interruption as the international law requires.

D. The President of Sri Lanka has pardoned a felon convicted for murder without going through due legal processes. This is an alarming situation that concerns the international community. We hereby request both the LTTE and the Sri Lankan Government to refrain from executing miscarriage of justice.

The above views are shining examples of balance that can stand up to the test of international standards. When a sibling slaps another, the parents choose to admonish both parties in equal vigour. Then the victim suffers two injuries; the injury of the slap and the admonishment. The victimiser gets two rewards; he or she gets to slap the other for free and also gets to chuckle and mock the victim about the pain caused by the balanced admonishment of the balanced parents. The net result would be that the victimiser will keep victimising forever since rewards are sure to come thanks to the embellishly balanced parents.

Thanks God, my parents did not have a balance view. They always took pain to sort out the victim and the victimiser and choose the consequence accordingly. The net result was that we were dared to fight and strived to avoid fighting as much as possible.

The 1983 July pogrom is organised by then ruling politicians and sanctioned by the LTTE. In this case my parents (any other parents for that matter) would have admonished both the LTTE and then Government. To be balanced, my parents would have been much harsher on the Government since my parents would have been ashamed to follow the international standards.

There were many occasions in the past that the Government forces played into the tunes of the LTTE. I have no qualms on those situations if the international community chose to criticise the Government strongly as it should have been. That is because I am a humanist first, a patriot second.

During the period of CFA, time after time, the international community chose to exhibit their ‘balance’ by criticising both sides equally. If my parents did the same each and every time when I chose to take advantage on a sibling the victim would have felt and accused that the parents and I had a secret pact to demoralise the victim. The victim should have really felt that he or she was adopted and parents were wishing him/her out of the family.

Certainly Governments should act properly and we need to set higher standards for Governments, but setting higher standards itself needs to be a condemnation and needs to be seen as condemnation of evilness of terrorism not sanctioning of it. If the International community has done this rightly the LTTE would have had to find an ocean of sand to hide his monstrous ugly face.

One reason of this LTTE evilness is to continue this long is that our ambassadors are appointed for extended holidays, expenses paid by the public purse. So mostly they enjoy their time serving the LTTE by indirect or direct means. (In Saudi Arabia, Saudi Nationals say to their Sri Lankan maids “Your embassy is worse than our toilets.” The reasons for this magnificent credential is that the ambassadors and their officers have a balance view on the money offered to them to look other way and for not standing to protect Sri Lankan citizens form injustices and cruel treatment by the Saudi Nationals. This should not go against all Saudis, though. Also, please pardon me, the diplomats who work hard to counter vicious propaganda of the LTTE.) This is the part that we would have been able to control and neutralise but more significantly there was another reason; the international community wants to appear as being impartial.

One can only surmise that this need of the international community to appear as being impartial at the expense of impartiality itself may be driven by its secret wish of LTTE’s triumph. Then the international community will be able to demand back the favours for impartiality from the triumphant evil empire of True Sun God.

If my parents behaved in the same manner for the sake of appearance of being impartial one of the siblings could have concluded that the parents were in fact shamelessly partial. Since the international community has chosen the approach of equal blame its partiality has become only too transparent. For this reason, the international community has become a joke in front of the LTTE and the LTTE did not care even an iota the attitude of the international community. Its blatancy in assassinating former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and repeated violations of CFA with unimaginable arrogance and their stance of glorification of suicide killing are examples of a spoiled evil child.

Imagine that the Sri Lankan Government has committed a crime in the magnitude of killing of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi or a suicide killing. The international outcry would have surpassed the fury of the most humongous thunderstorm one has ever witnessed. Not only is the LTTE able to ridicule, humiliate and laugh at the international community, it is also audacious enough to question the impartiality of the international community whenever it seems like that the international community is vacillating to act according to the wishes and whims of the LTTE.

Now the tables have turned around and the Government is acting more assertively than ever before and questions the judgements of the international community. The UNP is saying that they put an international safety net around the LTTE but the fact of the matter was that UNP was able to get an international cage around the sovereignty of the country itself. The current Government, which is still traitorous in some aspects, was able to perform a Hudini act to get out of this international trap with amazing skills. If, for some unforeseen reason, the Government fails on this regard then still a huge gratitude of mountainous magnitude is owed to them by the Nation for the work they have done so far. The responsibility of the failure should go to the opposition which does not stand up with shoulder to shoulder in this herculean national task and looks for every possible way to sabotage the Government program on National sovereignty.

As a spoiled child would, seeing its victim has become more assertive and the parents control has weakened to a significant level, the LTTE has begun to whinge about impartiality of the International community. For the LTTE only impartiality is being partial with their each and every crime against humanity including hostage taking, drug trafficking, prostituting rings, credit card frauds, suicide killings, use of civilians as body defence armour and many more abhorrent crimes.

What else can they do apart from whinging?

Internationally Cherished and Locally & Totally Wicked Truths

By Swarnajith Udana
swarnajithUdana@gmail.com

Featured in Asian Tribune on 13-04-2009

Last night just before I went to slumber, as usual, I skimmed over news. Here it was. I read the truth of a millennium. The shock of dark evilness sickened my soul and I was captured in a demonic trance.

SLA buildup poses severe threat to civilian security within 'safety zone'

During my sleep, the echoes of this statement from Tamilnet had swirled me into a Land of evil version of Baron Münchhausen. When I wake up in this morning I began to feel the Sky is the Earth and the Earth is the sky. The Sun is revolving around the True Sun God. The Sun is the Moon and the Moon is the Sun. It was quite difficult for me to come out of this trance of Trueness of Sun God. Fortunately for me, a rat, running scared to hide itself- fumbling through my feet, broke my trance. And the sacredness visible from this rat reminded me someone cornered in a tiny beach strip.

This statement is internationally true. Any doubts then judge by the reactions of our Masters. Some thing which is true internationally can be a lie locally. In the international arena, the truth is defined by national interests. Ferdinand Marcos was a real democrat for our Masters. They self-hypnotized themselves into trance according to the needs emanating from their national interests. In this trance engendered by so called national interests, USA, UK, Norway and all our Masters have become devout and faithful disciples of this Sun Godly truth. For them, now, True Son God is the true God. Or at least they pretend so. Sometimes they pretend not to pretend or pretend to pretend. Which is which? it all depends on the strategic necessity.

Because of their pretended or intended piety and reverence towards the True Son God, our Masters sink into a deep pretence of trance or truly divine trance- which is similar to the one I was briefly and truly experiencing in this morning due to sleeping through the echoes of evilness. Luckily I have seen the rat underneath my feet; I was saved. The Masters truly cannot see a rat from a rat since they have trained themselves for a long long time to see democrats form tyrant despots; the pretended stance of Masters has become a deep trance of sincerity. Masters themselves do not know now that this is not pretense any more since pretense has overtaken the pretense itself and become too real even for them.

This internationally acclaimed truth is locally untrue as defined by tears, blood, pain and death. Ask civilians who have escaped and who are striving to escape. Even ask some surrendered disciples of the True Son God. They will say how wicked this internationally worshipped truth is, as measured in feelings of misery, cruelty of diseases, pain of hunger, wounds of gunshots and deaths of live burning.

Please do not assume that our Masters do not really understand the statement above. In fact, it could almost be a pre-agreed code language. Isn’t it true that SLA build up threatens! Of course it does and it has. Why do they have to say it so out loud if it is not for sending a coded message? In fact, SLA build up did not stop at just threatening. That is the reason True Sun God has become a True Rat. This is a code. The Masters and their True Sun God both pretend to be talking about Tamil civilians but what they are actually talking about is their national interests (in the part of our Masters) and the saving of the sorry life (in the part of His Royal Ratness).

Oh I need to apologize to rats. I never intended to insult you rats. Even when you are scared you run and hide in your hole but you never use your little ones as defense armor. Sorry rats, deeply sorry!

Now we see that how true this statement is. Yes SLA build up threatens His Evil Ratness. One does not have to be a Euclid to figure this out. If the real worry of His Royal (or Evil) Ratness is civilians why does not HE let the civilians go?

If our Masters real worry is also truly civilians why don’t they strongly protest? It is true that feeble noises of faint winging, asking True Son God to release the civilians occur time to time, but this winging drama almost appears to be stage managed.

Then there are servants of LTTE and the Masters inside our beloved country itself. They try to get the credit of marginalizing of the LTTE while still doing every possible thing to sabotage the military campaign. Even in the Government there are traitors of true National interests (See the distinction between Masters’ national interests these genuine national interests that do not impose or harm others.). These traitors engage in poll violence and various corrupt activities. Shame on these people! This is a defining moment of our people. Only thing that they can think about is their lousy coffer. May God bless them if HE really can! No! No! I do not mean the True Sun God here. In these days, True God of Ratness cannot even breathe in peace let alone blessing others.

I would like to call upon the Government of Sri Lanka to declare several religious observance days to bless Tamil civilians. Kovils, Mosques and Churches should have a special prayer days. Temples must be doing all day Pirith to radiate compassion towards civilians. Tooth of Temple can do a special pooja dedicated to Tamil civilians.

These religious institutions and civilian agencies need to collect gifts to send to our brothers and sisters in need.

Radio and TV programs that enhance the awareness that a large number of our brothers and sisters are in distress need to be aired.

There should be talk shows so that people in distress can share their stories with the general public. These talk shows should be aimed at linking hearts as the military has almost completed one phase of linking lands.

This war is not about just linking land. What use of connecting land if the people are unlinked? This war is about our National Unity. We all should play our part in this.

LTTE Proclaims Ultimate Confidence in the Masters

By Swarnajith Udana
swarnajithudana@gmail.com

The cartoon below is borrowed from Sandeshaya. http://sandeshaya-canada.blogspot.com

It looks like a new prophet has arrived as the existing prophet has been over-burdened by having to overwork with running in difficult terrain, creeping in the harsh woods and hiding in rabbit holes. He simply does not have time to get any reprieve even to breathe in normal rhythm. It has been continuous running, creeping or hiding. How can he perform in the True Son God’s Goebbelsmatic service? To HIS credit, True Son God has understood this and has appointed an additional prophet.

Yes, not surprisingly and being compatible with the LTTE True Sun God maxims, the new assistant, additional, supervising or overriding prophet possesses unsurpassable credentials for a diplomat by being a wanted international criminal. By appointing an Interpol fugitive as their ambassador, the LTTE has confirmed its unyielding and unwavering confidence in the Masters. If anybody feels that the LTTE is mocking and degrading the Masters by choosing an Interpol wanted criminal that is merely erred perception. Every thing is relative, isn’t it? My upside is someone else’s downside and vice versa. It all depends on each other’s location. If one keeps the maxims of the True Son God and the double standards of the Masters in mind then there is no need to be confused. Rather we should feel reassurance that still the world has a discernible pattern. Hurray for that!

Of course there may be some attempts to show attempting of disguise and change of identity. For instance, the new prophet might change the number of nasal hairs or the number of hairs on the ear or in the mustache. Instead of the name KP he might use IP (for International pariah). This identity transformation is not truly necessary; this is merely done to make it more convenient for the Masters to deal with an International pariah and facilitate the immoral association. The Masters should be able to say that we did not recognize that he was an IP even though the new name, IP, itself points to the status of the owner of the name. This reminds me Marcos, Sadam Hussein, Nicaragua’s contras and Bin Laden. Each and every one of them was once a faithful servant of Masters.

This new prophet has said something that may confuse many. According to him war is not the only means that the problem can be solved. If war is not the only means then he must mean some form of peaceful means. What does this mean? For LTTE the war is the peace. That is the only way that they are able to relax in peace; within themselves what I mean here. For example, even at this eleventh hour, True Son God has increased recruitment of child combatants according to the civilians escaping from HIS Elam Hostage Den. It is abundantly clear that still the True Son God is adamant of keeping the civilians as his human defense shield. That proves, for them to feel serenity of peace, they need war at the cost of true peace.

Also, for them peace equals war. For example consider their activities during the time of CFA; killing of our beloved citizen Kadirgamar and many of the finest intelligent agents various violations of CFA. If war equals peace and peace equals war in True Son God Elamology then what does this new prophet mean by the statement that war is not the only way of finding a solution to the problem. (What problem do they mean? The socio-psychological affliction of blood thirst of the LTTE does not need a solution. That needs elimination-let us forget, for a moment, about what this so called problem is and just ponder about what “other mean” means.)

Is it possible that the LTTE could have meant suicide killings, mass scale hostage taking and keeping them as human defense shield and a bargaining chip by this terminology of “other means”. I doubt this. If LTTE were a warring party of even distantly human origin yes then they would have not idolized these despicable and horrendous crimes as part of war. For LTTE all of these devilish acts are legitimate warring methods. True Son God would swear to this. It is in HIS Book of Revelation. (This book of revelation is just about to be revealed.) I am confused. Oh! I know. They have given up the war. They know that they have already lost the war.

In fact, if I remember and had interpreted correctly, as soon as the current sequel of Elam War started, they had known that they would be defeated. At the first or second taste of their defeats they appealed to the Masters to wake up. According to the LTTE, what they had experienced was a meticulously planned long term war strategy to grab territory and destroy LTTE. So they gave up defeating Sri Lankan forces by military means long time ago. These military means even include what is not military in generally accepted norms, such as suicide killing, chemical attacks, exploding tanks to submerge a large area with its people, etc. It is not that they had decided not to engage militarily or commit such crimes. They would apply themselves to the ultimate levels of their capability and devilish of devilish maxims but they knew that they were facing a different army under the military leadership of Mr. Sarath Fonseka and the political leadership of the President.

Then what is this other mean? It is by the Masters; by hoodwinking the masters. They are asking the Masters, as they did in colonial times, to give Sri Lankan Nation as the lamb of Sacrifice in the altar of one and only one True Son God. Since sufficient resentment towards the horrible crimes committed by the LTTE against Tamil civilians is not forthcoming from the Masters one might even conclude that Masters are themselves becoming pious disciples of True Son God. For these misguided observer participants or faithful disciples (the Masters) to have a balance view is to blame the both parties in equal vigor. Of course there are moments that Sri Lankan Government has to be castigated, blamed and accused. For instance, corruption and thuggery of some members of the Government make it hard for people to counter the accusations fabricated by the LTTE. So these activities of corruption and thuggery are acts of treason against Mother Lanka and supporting LTTE. This is what exactly what some of our political leaders refuse to understand. If a rupee goes to the coffer it does not matter even if lightening strikes the Nation.

Nadashen, like a rabbit running to escape from a wolf, in a brief moment of reprieve between sprinting from one hole to another, has found time to make a statement. In that statement he proclaims that his True Son God is deeply committed to the national freedom struggle. I do not have a problem with the ‘deep’ part. That word is simply referring to the rat hole. That is alright. To take a rat out, one does need even an army; just a pest controller is sufficient regardless the depth of the rat hole. But the problem is that this rat hides behind skirts and babies and their nappies and is surrounded by rat worshippers wearing True Son God’s ritual dress of self killing explosives. Even that is alright. The army is brave enough to take some casualties and skillful enough to out manure such feeble and inhumane traits. My worry is that this message is simply news of impending death for Tamil civilians. He guarantees that there will be more suicidal killings and there will more civilian canon fodder and the civilians will be still be kept as human defense shield and a bargaining chip. What does Nadashen do? He says “Amen.” Amen!

One phase of this war is speedily coming to end. Next phase is to defeat and destroy international dirty underworld kingdom of finance of the LTTE. For this to happen, Sri Lanka needs to place dedicated diplomats in all major LTTE centre countries. These diplomats are the new warriors of the new Nation who are well trained to sniff money trails. On top of that we need to spiritually defeat separatism and federalism and base our Nationhood on “fairness to all.” Certainly one individual can initiate and motivate this but, to win this essential phase, we need to get together and remake our collective framework of thinking and attitudes. In this Endeavour, the Government, Opposition, temples, kovils, churches, mosques, civil leaders, academics and artists etc has to play a role. It needs to be a National reawakening; a new dawn.

How can such a reawakening happen if our opposition leaders are so smart that they make statements such as-What is Thoppigala? it is just a jungle. What is the use of grabbing a useless land? They said they were going to attack Killinochchi. Now they are going after Mulathive. Doesn’t this prove the war a big lie?- and more? This is not merely inadequacy of own intelligence of political leaders. It is that these politicos believe that people lack intelligence.

I call upon Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to apologize to the Nation for ridiculing legitimate National sentiments. Only then he earns the right to stay in politics. I call upon on so called Trotskyites and Marxists to recognize that racism, minority or majority, is equally harmful and does not have a place in modern world. It is no wonder why they are seen as clowns. It may be Marxist physics that a bullet flies from a gun held by a minority racist is infinitely gentler than one flies from a gun held by a majority racist. This they believe is the mark of infinite wisdom; yes that is true but only in their mental fiefdoms.

Another political joke is that the opposition parties ask the government not to use the war for political gain. This itself is using the war for political gain. They ask the Government not to ask the support of the people for the war. What does the Government have to do? Ask the support of people to give the Sri Lankan Nation in a golden platter to the True Son God? When do they really learn that they do not learn or do not wish to learn?

Given all that let us recognize that we need reawakening of true Nationalism in which each and every Sri Lankan citizen by birth or naturalization has equal status and responsibilities and right to live anywhere in the country in peace, use language of own choice, follow the religion of own faith and live in the traditions one cherishes. It is not that we do not have these values and traditions but the poison and friction instigated by colonial powers are still lurking around in our psyche and we need to eliminate these pollutants so that we can become a Real One Nation in true spirit.

WE do not grant any of these rights or we are not granted of these rights by any one; we simply acknowledge and live by these principles. Let us say no to Sinhala hegemony and no to areas of Tamil hegemony. WE ARE ONE NATON IN ONE COUNTRY.

Our Ambassadors And Their Extended Holidays

Author:Swarnajith Udana
swarnajithUdana@gmial.com

About fifteen years or so ago a friend of then Sri Lankan President was appointed as the Ambassador to Australia. The presidential call was from his friend to have a nice holiday in Australia. This ambassador was insensitive enough to publicly state this in front of a group of Sinhalese (This shows that he could not see any thing wrong with that. That is how they think about public. Public is there to serve their each and every single wish and whim.). At the end of his tenure Sinhalese people did not even bother to give him a farewell. He might have said to himself, “ungrateful rascals!” This is the attitude of our government people and its representatives. What are they doing to counter LTTE propaganda? Yes they do a little as a hobby in a leisurely fashion not with any passion. How can the LTTE still take the world for a ride? Infiltrations! That could be very true. Did our Governments anticipate this? Did or do they have a plan to counter this? If the lackeys are appointed to represent our nation as gifts for facilitating dirty political deals then we can expect only peanut services.

For instance, while this genocide accusation is making rounds in international arena, have our representatives endeavoured to point out that one has to drag Tamil Civilians by force from the Government controlled side to the LTTE safe heaven. While that is so, is there a loud cry by the Government to show that the Tamil civilians brave mines (that are set up by LTTE to stop civilian escape), Tamil civilians have even become sheer insensitive to shooting, torturing and live-burning done by the LTTE as punishment for attempts of escaping and Tamil civilians risk their lives by taking extremely dangerous jungle and sea routes just to cross to the side of the genocide camps. How strange is this?

Why cannot the world see this? The people who crossed to the “genocide” camps of Sri Lankan Government bare evidence to the trust they place in the security forces and atrocities committed by the LTTE. A UN official has commented that he cannot vouch for the number of civilian deaths due to war. This is understandable. To vouch for a number more or less one needs to count. If it is not possible, then one cannot vouch, but what does prevent UN from pointing out to this strange phenomenon that people voluntarily and deliberately going to the concentration camps of genocide and then express gratitude and relief? How come the Tamil civilians craze to cross to the side of death? This situation is indictment of our foreign services and government corrupt practices through decades. No wonder why the LTTE has been on top of the propaganda war.

The recent upheaval in the UNP camp is a blessing in disguise for Sri Lanka if the people pay proper attention. Loosing credibility of Government is nothing new and signals the death of the regime. That may not be bad itself, but loosing credibility of the Opposition signals the death of democracy. That is a disaster. Yet this recent upheavals in the UNP has a silver lining in it. It reveals the inner working of the modern political parties and provides glimpses into the soul and inner spirit of our society. The decay of society and the moral decay of political parties go in hand in hand and they feed on each other. If this is how the UNP has conspired against its own members it is not hard for anybody to imagine what might have they done against the government. How many accusations against the Government might have just cooked up in Siri Kotha?

How many crimes they might have committed or stage-managed just to point the finger at the Government? Is there any guarantee that the UNP has not provided disinformation on the Government and told tales against the Government in International arena with malicious intent, to short cut the war and reach their own dirty political aspirations by throwing the Nation to the Tiger, LTTE? This loosing credibility is a crime against the Nation, not just against the President.

Governments and Oppositions are both elected to serve the Nation. The task of the Government is to govern the country and the task of the Opposition is to govern the Government. Instead of performing these sacred national duties entrusted to them, the first priority of the Government is to outfox the Opposition and that of the opposition is to outfox the Government. While this game of outfoxing of each other is going on high gear foxes from outside meddle, control and govern the affairs of the country. What is being subjected to immense bleeding and torturous gangrene is the Nation itself; the sacred duty that they have been entrusted with is neglected and ignored. To see this just listen what our politicians say. UNP, JVP, Marxist Parties and the Government and all the other parties behave in this ludicrous manner. For instance a Trotskyite, once said that minority racism or nationalism is progressive and the majority racism or nationalism is oppressive. Minority or majority when a gun fires the bullet kills. Maybe, by the word progressive, the Marxist was referring to the increasing magnitude of mayhem.

Morality cannot win military wars; just because of that one cannot throw the morality away. If we do then we will later find that the Nation has lost in big time. Also, the war of morality cannot be won by military means. One of the excuses of our past Masters and International Lords that they still tend to find a pet in the Tiger is that the behaviour of our own leaders. (Another reason is the appointment of foreign services officers to extended holidays.) Let us say that Lasantha Wickramathunga , who has been hailed as saint of journalism (This I am not going to discuss and his duplicity and complicity has been amply exposed for the eyes that are open.), was killed by LTTE or UNP, just to trouble the Government. Let us agree all the dirty killings and attacks were cruel deeds of the UNP or/and the LTTE. Then I should ask who pardoned the wife of Minister Milroy Fernando? Was this done by UNP? Is this a thitha (period) to Mathata thitha of Mhinda Chinthana itself. The President mocks himself.

President you have been elected to a post of immense powers as JR once remarked, but remember none of these powers is vested in you to release convicted murderers without due legal process. Here I recall the release of Gonawala Sunil. How can an ambassador, even if he/she wants to and is equipped with skills to face and decimate LTTE propaganda, confront outside world and say our Government works on principles? This is not a human mistake. This is a traitorous act against the Nation. That is even more so in this delicate moment. This is as traitorous as the burning of Jaffna library and allowing the 1983 riots to go unabated for sometime. President you are not elected to this position to show your gratitude or express your friendships; (It is good that you have those good qualities but do not use the powers vested in you for personal favours). You are elected to be King Elara or the policeman in India who fined himself for running a red light and who sued his wife for abusing government property (the vehicle was given to him by the government for his official use.)

President has recently expressed that the ambassadors of Sri Lanka should be able to negate the LTTE propaganda. For this to happen, ambassadors should be able to stand on high moral ground. If the ambassadors have to defend murderers being pardoned with out due legal process by the highest authority of the country and if the security given to politicians is withdrawn as a mean of intimidation then they will have no credibility to start with and the pet rebels would win hands down. Providing security for these unscrupulous politicians is not done because their services are invaluable. It is to neutralise any propaganda against the Government. If the Government is so keen about winning the propaganda war (which is a more sacred national duty rather than a strategy of political expediency) then it is important that the Government stands on principles.

Mr. President when you came to power Sri Lanka was a divided country whose leaders chose to bend their heads to kiss the feet of the True God. You chose otherwise. You achieved this nearly impossible feat in a prudent manner with strategical cleverness and skills without haste or reluctance. This credit must go to you, Sir and to some of your team and of course to the soldiers. If you really want to, you can become the mythical Prince Diyasena. Stand on principles. People will be grateful to you. They already are. Do not betray their trust. History will mark appropriately the magnitude of Chandirka’s betrayal of people’s trust. Please do not follow that example, Sir. I believe that you are too good for that.

Sri Lankan people have come a long way from their 1983 racial disharmony. This is evident that they showed maturity and compassion to ignore provocations and stay calm bearing emotional distress. My feeling is that they have vastly moved away from straight forms of racial biases. At least Sinhalese people seem to be more compassionate towards the predicament of Tamils, yet they still have a long way to go. There should be campaigns to nurture this new unity. It is heartening to see that Tamil people who once feared the security forces (with good reasons I might add) now trust them and soldiers under extremely testing conditions keep their composure. These did not happen in a vacuum. Political and military leaderships and particularly soldiers should be praised for this achievement.

Muslim people seem to be going some extra mile to generate religious harmony by offering alms to temples. Have Buddhists reciprocated this magnificent gesture. How about other religions? To enhance this springing up national unity, Bodhi Puja needs to be organised in village level to bless health, safety and peace to Tamil civilians.

Some people may think and say that standing on fairness to all beyond racial lines on national unity is humanely impossible utopianism. In that case, we do not have to worry! We always have the luxury of inhumanely possible and economically ‘productive’ war. The choice is ours. Not making the choice itself is the choice of inhumanely possible war. If politicians resolve firmly to perform their sacred duty we can bring our Nation to the prosperity that it deserves and once it had. I believe that the President, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha, can do it if he really so desires.

Cease The Cries For Ceasefire Or Show How To Cease Fire

Author:Swarnajith Udana
swarnajithUdana@gamil.com

From a considerable number of organizations there are loud cries for ceasefire. That itself is not a bad idea. Any reasonable person (This excludes LTTE and its supporters.) would want to save civilians. What I cannot see-may be due to lack of military expertise and not being privy to sufficient information- how can a ceasefire save even a single civilian life if the LTTE does not agree to release the civilians during a well determined ceasefire? Do the people who crave for a ceasefire care to tell the Sri Lankan Government how can the civilians be saved even if the LTTE would choose to tighten the noose around the civilians? I am not saying that there are no such methods; the problem is that I cannot perceive such methods due to limitedness of my mind. If any body can show this I will be crying for a ceasefire too since it cuts the noose around the civilians and tightens around the LTTE.

How did our affairs develop into this sorry state that International community at large is blind to these realities? There is no doubt the LTTE is a unique phenomena in the stage of international arena. They are cunning, innovative and resourceful. All these aspects rise from one single black hole; A black hole that usurps all positive human qualities and x-rays only sinister ruthlessness reinforced by no-remorse-no-guilt-no-shame spirituality of True Godly maxims. This is true but are we to believe or say that the LTTE is invincible? Who offered them this invincibility? We can say Masters did. It may be also true. So, if that is the whole truth, nothing but the truth, then aren’t we doomed and accepting that the LTTE is undefeatable?

If we really want to defeat the LTTE militarily and spiritually then we need to look at our roles in granting the LTTE its invincibility. Only by seeing that it is us, more than any body else, who grants the LTTE its divineness then we can empower us to truly take out their invincibility. Otherwise, we will have to wait until the LTTE sheds its invincibility by itself and the Masters take it away. That is not going to happen.

How did we give the LTTE its invincibility? Recently Mr. Thomas Johnpulle writing on Sri Lanka Guardian claimed that Jaffna Tamil people gave up the idea of independence state for economic reasons. Yes it is true that one of them claimed they need 50/50 representation. It is also true that colonial powers had ignited racial friction between the ethnic groups. Even then the Jaffna Tamils choose not to ask for an independent state. (I am not a historian-so I may be wrong here in detail but my basic tenet would still be correct. For that matter, even if I am a historian I may still be wrong regardless my sincerity since even exact sciences cannot claim to achieve absolute truths.) Whatever the situation is it is absolute truth that there was racial disharmony and friction fuelled by colonial powers (This statement does not exonerate Tamils or Sinhalese for keeping the fuel working on themselves.) and still the Tamil people choose (may be reluctantly) agreed to live in one Sri Lanka or Ceylon. Now what did our politicians do to quell the fires deep insides of hearts.

Rather they themselves choose to fuel the racial disharmony and sold their souls for foul votes. Dear Sinhalese do not ask what Tamils did or did not do to soothe the situation and nurture National identity among all. If you do then you are surrendering control of yourselves to another group. Dear Tamils do not ask what Sinhalese did or did not do either. You both people need to stand for fairness to all and throw away animalistic tribalistic world view in favour of more humane version of patriotism and ethnic love. If it is impossible to you, then you are choosing war. If we do not choose to change ways of our hearts we are fuelling Sinhalese and Tamil extremist groups. The Sinhala version of LTTE or the upgrade version of LTTE may not be far away. (Please do not interpret this as a support for power devolution, federalism or separatism. In fact some time ago, I happened to be a supporter of separatism or at least federalism. In principle, I am not against separatism or federalism, yet in practical terms federalism or power devolution in racial lines could spell disaster for both Tamils and Sinhalese, is what I believe now.)

It is evident that the LTTE blissfully welcomed 1983 riots. They knew the right buttons to push to make it happen. How did they know? They knew it because they accurately gauged the sentiments of Sinhalese politicians and some segments of Sinhalese population. They did not kidnap our politicians and make them burn the Jaffna Library. Some of our politicians did it voluntarily. The LTTE did not take the hands of Sinhalese mobs and raise those hands and planted them with swords then landed the hands on Tamils to unleash lethal power. Some one is saying even these mobs were led by Tamils (LTTE) themselves. If any Tamil went near by such a mob they would have been killed by the mob instantly. We should not play LTTE type games with truth. Why did JR wait so long to address the Nation and ask for calmness? Was it because he was abducted by the LTTE and kept hostage until enough damage was done to satisfy the horrendous plan of the LTTE.

If we want to decimate the myth of LTTE invincibility we need to take control; control of ourselves, that is, not of Tamils. We need to clearly understand how a segments of Sinhalese people themselves ignited racial disharmony. Then Even a larger segment physically or in attitude followed these sentiments fueled by racial hatred. If we see this collectively we can free ourselves from this evil and reach out to our Tamil brothers and sisters. Do not leave it to them. Let us be strong assertive and reach out them without yielding. Is this impossible? Alright then we have the luxury of war and suicide bombing.

Upon arrival of this LTTE menace, having helped them to establish themselves as a military power what did our politicians do? The LTTE became a gold mine for some of our ministers and army officers. They let our young people to be slaughtered at the will of the LTTE and virtually sold their corpses to fill their coffers with dollars. Some of our politicians and army officers made every possible buck from commissions obtained by purchasing ineffective bullets and non-protective bulletproof vests. The list goes on and on. We ornamented the LTTE with the myth of invincibility and we celebrated their invincibility with pious feelings of reverence. We can blame India, NGO and many other evil forces. By doing that what we only do is to hand over the control to somebody else. We are subliminally saying to us “They are so powerful and we are helpless.” For the credit of this current Government, this feeding of one’s own coffers using the beggars wound of the war seems to have almost eradicated. It seems like that now the soldiers are looked after and being well disciplined.

True Sun God may be planning to do a Jim Jones; commit mass murder and suicide as it happened on 18th of November 1976 in Guyana. One may argue this suicide-murder was initiated by the visit of Congressman Leo Ryan. If such a heinous crime happens in the safe zone then some of our masters may be waiting to blame Sri Lanka for initiating the crime by choosing to defend its sovereignty. I wish that True God will have sanity enough not to commit such thing since I cannot bear that harm of this magnitude coming to our brothers and sisters not because some are waiting to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka.
